jaybee mukaro says: The name Mukaro originates from a trading group of people who hailed from south east of Zimbabwe, today :Chipinge a pure Zimbabwe Shangaan ethnicity and later became Karanga now based in Gutu district of Zimbabwe with their own conflict-free chiefdom adjacent to the older Madyirapazhe-Gumbo dynasty. Mukaro people are addressed as the Nyakuvengwa(The hated) ,or Sahai(Sir) Chirandu,Gono(The Male) or Mushayachirashwa(nothing is wasted on them),so males are called, women are MaMoyos(Pure Heart). We have learnt that mem who sujugate themselves to the conjugal whimsies of these MaMoyos have sweeter lifetime stories of 'comfort' to the alarming point of forgeting their clan for good. The Mukaros traded inland with the Portuguese who usually based at Beira and other prazos or so as far back as 1785. The white man came from manufacturing Europe with beads, red-white-black cloths popularly known as Jira ravavhimi(Hunters cloth)tobacco, guns, bullets, tobacco pipes, hoes, knives, alcohol ,spirits etc. That merchandise was strange ,new and captivating to any African consumer. For a tobacco pipe the Mukaros could demand two heifers on a good day.Market days witnessed hassling in price negotiations to effect equity in the barter trade between the Mukaros and Portuguese traders. The Mukaros plied their trade in Chinemukutu land(present day Gutu) passing to and fro through the peaceable Duma Confederacy of Vikita(today Bikita)crossed rivers, streams carnivore-infested plains and mountaions to go and do business in exchange mainly for cattle, women, male slaves minerals etc. All trade items were obtained peacefully and on market winds which prevailed during those times. The Mukaros would camp for days or weeks in Gutu, for they were accepted and trusted, in preparation for arduous business trip back home. They perforated a hole in the masal cartilage of the every beast they got. Put a tree string and tied then and led then away with zero resistance. This act is 'mukaro' in Shona, that is slavery. Visitors to the Gumbo ,Jakata-(headquarters) would ask to know who was camping nearer. The replies went thus, "They are the mukambo(market) people of the "mukaro". That was exact origin or the way the Mukaro surname energed according to existing oral historiography. This dates back to 1802. While in camp one could die of diabetes melitus, malaria or irreversible nervous disintegration and be interred far from home. The Mukaro traders later brought their leaders into the Gumbo kingdom ,so they organised a regiment to invade, kill and overtake the land.Harsher political decisions of dominance. They coined a simple strategy equally armed. They smeared thenselves with wet white ashes all over their bodies while 100% nude. They marched into the kings domain naked, just imagine. They (Mukaros) killed a couple of the clan Gumbo nobles and they capitulated easily, offered one of the beautiful princesses to the invaders and parcelled out land that is roughly 40km from Gutu to Roy-Masvingo-Mutare highway and about 20km wide to the Mukaros to effect peace and tranguility with the "foreigners." That was how the Mukaros cunningly acquired their present day chiefdom which was endorsed decades later by the British colonizer. Today, a cursory check has indicated that most Mukaros do business despite being professionals here or there. They are likeable usually, friendly and politics-shy people.
