Meaning of this name is unknown.
Melissandre says: Curious... Do you have knowledge of any Mélissandre born before january 1982 ? We named my first daughter Mélissandre, name proposed by a friend who visibly was not up to date with his "classics", he mixed up Mélissande, Mélisande and his breton dialect. That name, with an "r", did not exist before, but, why not ? Obviously, in my spirit that name relates to the bee, unrestly worker, and to Sandra. I found rather nice to give my daughter a name which did not yet exist (my baby is unique ! :-) I encountered difficulties to pass that surname at the townhall officer : At that time they had a booklet containing all surnames allowed, with all names of the Saints. Any surname which not was in that booklet was forbidden. The officers had made horrible errors in the register, which made me furious. I yelled in their office, they stepped back to the window, ready to jump out : Their registry of births showed, sigillated officially, red ribbon and all, that my father in person had come to the townhall the day before and had declared that this baby were his. There I went berserk (I did not hurt anybody ! Only verbally). Please understand that my father had died some days before. At that moment his body was in a freezebox in Germany, until I'd made all necessary for my baby and for her mother in France and could go to assist to his burial and assist my mother... Concerning the unknown name for my daughter I invented a story about greek mythology. "They" corrected everything (I do not know how they did it, and I don't want to know !), the registry, and accepted the unknown name which I had decided for my baby... Seen from nowadays, that episode might look funny. At that time and place it was not funny for me, at all. We knew many people. One of those couples told me that they named their baby the same name, "she's so open, so awakened, uncredible !" I felt honoured. Not for her name ! But for the way she was. Then we moved to the south of France. Same phenomena : Friends surnamed their baby daughters that name. Friends aked me "Ain't you got such a name for my boy ?" I'm sorry, no :-( All my life I made girls, no boy. The sole pregnancy where it was a boy had to be interrupted because doctor's erroneous medication :-( Then, around 1985, we moved to the center of France. Same phenomena, friends gave that name to their baby girls. There we did guesthouse. People from many regions stopped over. I'd got difficulties to save my daughter from social judgements : "She's so beautiful, a blonde angel, but real, her !". No. Stop, please ! It's up to me to rise my child, not to you ! she is a living being, take care, don't treat her your puppet ! Once one tried to impress me, for to leave my child to them, "I am important person at Paris, Government. So leave her to me, she would live a better life than here, with you, down little farmer !" and such. They ignored that I was general engineer, german university diplomae, all week long working for the french government. I always protected my countryside family home from such. Allas I had to teach those. They ran out. Firstly they wanted to take my child with them. I convinced them to leave her. They ran. I am pleased never to see those again. Even now, thirty years later, that event makes me vomish. When, at last, one may live in peace ? Well, this is what I can say about that surname. I hope that it helps you what of the origine of this surname. No, I won't tell you her actual name. Leave her quiet.
